The Graphic Novel Renaissance in Newsweek (Jan. 2, 2012)
Winners will be announced on Saturday Oct. 9, at the Frankfurt Book Fair.
Here's a little bit more about the award.
From Blackwell's website:
Sunday 6th March, 6pm - 7.30pm
Blackwell Bookshop, 48-51 Broad Street, Oxford
Tickets: £2
We are thrilled to announce an event with Apostolos Doxiadis taking place on Sunday 6th March from 6pm to 7.30pm. In his talk entitled "Modern Quest Myths: From Numbers to Stories", Apostolos Doxiadis will speak about his books Uncle Petros and Golbach's Conjecture and Logicomix, as an introduction to a discussion about their theme and forms. Given the concurrent thematic concerns of Doxiadis' books and his personal ventures into the relationship of mathematics to narrative and the topic of narrative intelligence, it seems fitting that his talk will engage with how the modern quest is mythologised in both mathematics and literature, showing they are connected and mutually dependant.
In both books Doxiadis uses the compelling narratives of two men's lives, tracing their heroic successes and human frailties, in order to introduce and explore some of the biggest ideas of mathematics and modern philosophy
Tickets cost £2 and can be obtained by telephoning or visiting the Customer Service Department, Second Floor, Blackwell Bookshop, Oxford. Tel: 01865 333623.

Apostolos Doxiadis: 'From Mimesis to Aristotle for Screenwriters-and back: What can a Modern Writer Learn from the Ancient Greeks about Writing?'
Modern writers see in Homer, Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides masters of narrative structure, while Hollywood screenwriting manuals pay tribute to Aristotle's Poetics. Yet, this is chiefl y because we read the Greeks in ways which are biased by our own storytelling habits. By attempting to understand Greek literature in its original context, a writer can become much more aware of its differences from modern works – and learn much more from it.

Read this interesting essay on LOGICOMIX from readinggroupguides.com to see what topics have come up in other groups' discussions of the book.
They describe LOGICOMIX as follows:
"This brilliantly illustrated tale of reason, insanity, love and truth recounts the story of Bertrand Russell's life. Raised by his paternal grandparents, young Russell was never told the whereabouts of his parents. Driven by a desire for knowledge of his own history, he attempted to force the world to yield to his yearnings: for truth, clarity and resolve. An insightful and complexly layered narrative, Logicomix reveals both Russell’s inner struggle and the quest for the foundations of logic. Narration by an older, wiser Russell, as well as asides from the author himself, make sense of the story’s heady and powerful ideas. At its heart, Logicomix is a story about the conflict between pure reason and the persistent flaws of reality, a narrative populated by great and august thinkers, young lovers, ghosts and insanity."

All comic books are about a hero’s journey. Each hero must travel the path destined for him, be it Superman, Batman, Maus or as is the case with Logicomix, Bertrand Russell. Sure, Russell was a mathematician, logician, philosopher, pacifist and historian whose theories are considered prescient, but to many other left-hemisphere intellectuals Russell was very simple, a hero with a quest to save the world from ‘the devils…contradiction and paradox’.

The German LOGICOMIX has hit the shelves!
Apostolos spoke about LOGICOMIX to students and professors at the University of Cambridge in November 2009. After his talk he was joined by Alecos Papadatos in answering the audience's questions. The event was hosted by the Hellenic Society at Cambridge, and Apostolos was introduced by mathematician Tim Gowers.
Apostolos and Alecos were invited to speak about LOGICOMIX by the Post-Graduate Maths Society of the School of Mathematics at the University of Birmingham.
At their November 11th lecture, Apostolos spoke about his relationship with math, comics, and writing, and Alecos talked about the creative process in comics, and even gave the audience a demonstration of how he draws Bertrand Russell.
"If you haven’t read it yet, I recommend last year’s surprise best-seller LOGICOMIX, a brilliantly creative graphic novel about set theory, logic, infinity, madness and the quest for mathematical truth."
Steven Strogatz, on his New York Times blog, The Opinionator
LOGICOMIX won the 2010 Bertrand Russell Society Book Award!
2010 is a particularly special year for Russell fans, as it marks the 100th anniversary of the Principia Mathematica.
Apostolos, Alecos, and Annie appear in comic form in the pages of the arts magazine of the Financial Times, discussing Claude Levi-Strauss, structuralism, and the house of Atreus.
LOGICOMIX is awarded the Dutch Bookseller's Medal!
From the press release: On World Book Day 2010 ten non-fiction books will be awarded the Dutch Bookseller’s Medal (Lintje van de Boekverkoper). The winners of these yearly awards for quality non-fiction are chosen by a jury of booksellers. Most striking this year is the choice of a ‘graphic novel’, a form that is rapidly gaining popularity. The Royal Dutch Booksellers Federation will officially hand out the medals in a ceremony on Friday April 23rd.

LOGICOMIX was selected, along with 15 other books, to compete in the 2010 Tournament of Books, the winner of which will be awarded the Rooster Award, presented by Field Notes.
A description of the competition from the website: "Each spring we take 16 celebrated novels from the previous year and seed them into a competitive bracket like the kind used in the N.C.A.A. basketball championship. A group of judges is enlisted, and the tournament plays out over the course of five rounds of matches in March. Each match sees two books battling head-to-head in brutal combat, with a judge explaining how he or she has chosen to move one of them to the next round."
Logicomix is in list of Top 10 Non-Fiction Books
"Apostolos Doxiadis' charming dialogue and Alecos Papadatos' simple, affecting drawings give the story an immediacy and approachability that nothing else could."

From the comments section on New York Times Arts Beat Blog post about LOGICOMIX:
Graphic books have not been my thing,
The format won’t make my bells ring,
Logicomix was tempting,
I found it preempting
When I took it under my wing.
The text is engagingly tart,
Ensnaring the brain and the heart,
The drawings & color?
Sprightly without dolor,
Logicomix is a book apart!
TIME Magazine listed LOGICOMIX on their "Short List of Things to Do," noting,
"The English philosopher Bertrand Russell was so dogged in his pursuit of mathematical logic, he co-wrote a book that took 362 pages to prove 1 + 1= 2. But this improbably entertaining graphic novel argues that his work had its roots in logic's dark inverse: madness."
LOGICOMIX debuted at #14 on the IndieBound Bestseller List (determined weekly by sales figures at independent booksellers across America).
See the full list here.
LOGICOMIX is on IndieBound's Next List, the monthly list of "inspired recommendations from indie booksellers."
“Logicomix presents the complex life of legendary philosopher Bertrand Russell as an easy-to-understand graphic novel rich with details and ideas. This compelling book is both a fantastic historical take on the foundation of modern logic and a penetrating look into one of the 20th century's brightest minds.”

“The lives of ideas (and those who think them) can be as dramatic and unpredictable as any superhero fantasy. What could be more natural than a graphic novel to show how intellectual adventure plays out in the world of experience, with all its contradictions? Logicomix is witty, engaging, stylish, visually stunning, and full of surprising sound effects, a masterpiece in a genre for which there is as yet no name.”

"This magnificent book is about ideas, passions, madness, and the fierce struggle between well-defined principle and the larger good. It follows the great mathematicians--Russell, Whitehead, Frege, Cantor, Hilbert--as they agonized to make the foundations of mathematics exact, consistent, and complete. We see how Gödel illuminates their project. We see the Erinyes of Aeschylus's Oresteia giving up their principle of merciless revenge in favor of considered justice. And we see the band of artists and researchers--and the all-seeking dog Manga--creating, and participating in, this glorious narrative.". . . . . . . . . .--Barry Mazur, Gerhard Gade University Professor at Harvard University and author of Imagining Numbers (particularly the square root of minus fifteen)
